As you may've noticed, I finally decided to upgrade to the new blogger and all that comes with it. As the new template develops the links will (finally) be expanded and bugs generally worked out. The newly designed banner has now been made into a link back to the homepage from any page on the blog, as it should've been in the first place. You may have to hit the refresh button for it to start taking effect though.
